Preparations for Secondary/Year 1 2025

We welcome your son to Victoria School (VS), and are looking forward to partnering you as part of the Victorian Community!

For your convenience, appended is a summary of activities and information for you to take note of before the start of the new academic year.

2	Declaration of Swimming Proficiency	Please fill up this form in order to facilitate our planning for water-based activities for your son in the coming year.	Deadline: 2 Jan 2025
3	Application for Third Language	You would have been notified if your son is eligible to offer a Third Language, which includes Foreign Languages (French, German, Japanese, Spanish) and Special Programmes (Malay Special Programme, Chinese Special Programme). a. Foreign Languages - please register online ( https://www.moelc.moe.edu.sg/) with MOE Language Centre by 2 Jan 2025. Students applying for foreign language classes at MOELC are strongly encouraged to opt for classes on Mondays at 3.30pm or later to ensure that there is sufficient travelling time to the MOELC. b. Chinese Special Programme (CSP) - please visit Changkat Changi Secondary School’s websitefor details and to register by the scheduled deadline. c. Malay Special Programme (MSP) – MSP lessons are held in VS. 4	Appeal to offer Higher Mother Tongue Languages (HTML)	Notifications have been sent to inform parents via Parent Gateway (PG) if your son is eligible to offer HMTL as a subject. If you did not receive the notification and wish to appeal for your son to offered HMTL, you may do so via https://go.gov.sg/vsappealhmtl.	Deadline: 3 Jan 2025
5	Express interest in the Art Elective Programme (AEP) and/or the Regional Studies Programme (RSP)	Victoria School offers both the AEP and the RSP(including Bahasa Indonesia). Should your son be interested to sign up for either or both of these programmes, please complete this form to express your interest. More information on the selection process for the AEP and the RSP scholarship will be shared with your son when school starts.	Deadline to express interest: 26 Dec 2024, 1pm.
6	Application for Music Elective Programme	Should your son be interested in the Music Elective Programme, he could consider applying to offer it at a MEP centre. More information will be shared with your son when school reopens.	Application deadline: 15 Jan 2025
7	MOE Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) application	Information on the eligibility and application for the MOE FAS can be found at this link. Should you wish to apply for the MOE FAS, please do so online. Alternatively, you may also request for a hard copy for from the school general office.	Deadline to submit the MOE FAS application: 6 Jan 2025
8	Sign up for the VS Parent Support Group (VSPSG)	We invite you to join the VSPSG. As a close partner of the school, the PSG partners the school in various school initiatives, and also provides support to parents. The welcome letter from the VSPSG Chairperson is attached.	Nil.

Key information for the first day of school

The first two days of the academic year (Thursday, 2 January – Friday, 3 January 2025) will be an orientation programme led by your son’s seniors and teachers. Key information for the orientation programme are as follows:

a. Thursday, 2 January 2025. Please report to the school foyer by 08:20h in half uniform (VS PE t-shirt and school khaki shorts). Seniors will direct your son to his reporting venue. The day’s activities will end by 15:30h. Please ensure that your son brings along his school badge and school tie in preparation for the badge pinning ceremony on Day 2.

b. Friday, 3 January 2025. Please report to the school by 07:20h in his full uniform (white shirt and khaki shorts). The day’s activities will end by 15:30h.

Annex: Activities in January for Secondary/Year 1 students and parents.

2025 Secondary/Year 1 Orientation	Thu 2 – Fri 3 January 2025	Report to school in half uniform (VS PE t-shirt & school khaki shorts) on 2 Jan. Students to bring along their school badge and tie.
2025 Year 1 Integrated Programme (IP) Bridging Schedule	Mon 6 January 2025	The 1-day programme aims to introduce IP students to the IP curriculum as well as to equip them with core skills such as collaborative learning and effective questioning.
Sec 1 Mother Tongue Languages (MTL) Placement Test	Mon 6 January 2025	Only for Sec 1 (SEC Track) MTL students appealing for HMTL. Details of the placement test will be provided later.
CCA Showcase	Fri 10 January 2025 (Afternoon)	Students will be able to visit the booths set up by the CCAs and find out more about them.
Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM)	Fri 10 January 2025 (6 pm onwards)	Details of the onsite PTM will be provided later.
CCA – Compulsory Audition and Trial Sessions	Mon 13 and Tue 14 January 2025	The compulsory audition and trials are for selected CCAs only. More details will be provided when school re-opens
CCA Opt-In Audition & Trial Sessions	Wed 15 – Thu 23 January 2025	Students interested to try out selected CCAs must register their interest during the CCA Showcase on 10 January 2025. These opt-in CCA audition and trial sessions will be conducted in the afternoons during the period stated. More details will be provided when school re-opens.
Parent Support Group (PSG) Coffee Talk.	Thu 23 January 2025	The Victoria School PSG will be sharing how you can support your child’s transition into Victoria School.
