First let me welcome those of you who are new to VS. The VS PSG was set up because we believe that both the school educators and the parents have important and complementary roles to play in the development of our sons. It is through this collaborative Home-School partnership that will result in positive outcomes for our children, enabling them to develop to become gentlemen, professionals and sportsmen.
Many activities have been organised in the past, benefiting parents, teachers and students. For this year, PSG Committee aims to create more opportunities for parents to acquire relevant parenting knowledge and skills through the organisation of workshops. With the Principal’s support, VS has successfully applied for the Family Matters @ Schools program. Parents, including non PSG members, can therefore look forward to a number of free or highly subsidised parenting talks and workshops.
The fathers’ role in our sons’ development from boys to men is crucial. As the saying goes, mothers raise boys and fathers raise men. A subgroup comprising father volunteers have been set up. We aim to increase father-son bonds through activities, and effective fathers’ involvement in their sons’ lives through fathering workshops and father groups. Do watch out for them.
Many parent volunteers have dedicated much time and contributed their expertise to serving on the PSG Committee. I thank those who have served in the past as well as those who are currently serving together with me. The Committee and I can’t do this on our own. If any of you parents or teachers who wish to come forward to lend a hand or contribute your time and expertise, we will be happy to have you on board.
